Homework Policy
As an athlete or performer, it is expected that someone practice prior to competitions. The same expectation exists in the classroom. Tests or quizzes are much like a competition or performance. Homework is like practice. In order to do well in competitions, you must practice. In order to do well on graded assessments, you must complete your homework. Homework improves vocabulary recognition and emphasizes the main points of reading sections.
Homework and Academic Integrity Policy
Students will generally not receive “homework”. Assignments that are not finished in class or larger assignments such as lab reports would need to be worked on at home. Please see the district’s academic integrity policy below along with late work policy.
Late Work
It is the expectation that all students will turn in assignments on the given due date. Late work is an assignment not turned in by the established due date/class period. Students have up to three class periods past the due date to turn in a late assignment. Ten percent will be deducted for each class period that the assignment is late. A student who turns in the assignment more than three class periods past the due date will receive half of the credit that they earned on the assignment. In order to receive credit for late work a student must turn in any late work one week prior to the end of the marking period in which the assignment was given.
Class Absences
Excused:
Students who have excused absences due to illness or appointments should check the Absent Link and try to complete work if possible. Otherwise, assignments or quizzes / tests are due upon the 2nd class period after the absence. It is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements during GROWLS to make up a missed lab.
Educational Trip / Athletics / Extra Curricular:
Students are responsible for communicating with me PRIOR to their absence. Students are responsible for all information and assignments missed due to their absence; it is not considered an excuse for late (missed) work with the exception of some laboratory activities. Students will be directed to check the absent link and Canvas or ask a classmate for any notes and/or missed assignments due to their absence. It is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements during GROWLS to make up a missed lab. Students will be directed to check the absent link and Canvas or ask a classmate for any notes and/or missed assignments due to their absence.
Band/Music/Drama rehearsal or lesson
It is the responsibility of the student to notify me IN PERSON that he/she has a rehearsal and/or lesson during a scheduled science class. An email is NOT an acceptable way to notify me of a lesson. Students are responsible for all information and assignments missed due to lessons; it is not considered an excuse for late (missed) work. Students will be directed to check the absent link and Canvas or ask a classmate for any notes and/or missed assignments due to a practice or rehearsal. A student may be asked to split the period in order to take a quiz and/or participate in a graded activity; once they have completed their assignment, they will be excused to attend their lesson. It is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements during GROWLS to make up a missed lab.
