Meet Mrs. Workman

Welcome to 6th Grade!

Welcome to Blue Team and sixth grade! It is going to be such a great year at Mt. Nittany Middle School! I am so excited to meet you and for our school year to get started. This will be my eighth year at MNMS teaching sixth grade and my 12th year in the State College Area School District. I have previously taught third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade all over the country! Sixth grade is my favorite for all the reasons that you will experience this year!

Pittsburgh

I am originally from Pittsburgh and am a fan of ALL things from Da burgh including the Steelers, the Penguins, and even the Pirates.

Kentucky

I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Elementary Education. GO CATS!! Later, I got my Masters in Education from Marygrove University in Michigan.

Family Bitmoji

In my free time, my family and I love to travel, be outside, and be near a body of water. My husband, Aaron, and I met at the University of Kentucky where we were both swimmers. This love for the sport continues today as Aaron is the head swim coach for State High and I am one of the assistants. We both also coach for the club team, Nittany Lion Aquatic Club, here in town. Our family also includes our daughter, Molly, who is a sophomore at State High. She is on the swim and track teams for SCASD.  Our son, Macon, is an eighth-grader but goes to that other middle school (hehe!!). Macon enjoys football, volleyball, and his favorite basketball.

Baseball

This past summer, we traveled to some large swim meets across the country, found some beautiful beaches, visited family in Tennessee, explored Yosemite National Park, and knocked two more MLB ballparks (Anaheim and San Fransico) off our list!

reading

I also spend a BIG amount of time reading!!!!! I love reading middle-grade and young adult books so that I can recommend the perfect book for you! Some of my all-time favorites include the classic: The Hunger Games trilogy and Harry Potter, but some new ones that I have enjoyed are: The Spy School series by Stuart Gibbs, A Sitting in St. James by Rita Williams-Garcia, We are Inevitable by Gale Forman, Prairie Lotus by Linda Sue Park, and the graphic novel Dragon Hoops by Gene Luen Yang. This summers favorites include: Glitch by Laura Martin, The Stars Did Wander Darkling by Colin Meloy, and Unsettled by Reem Faruqui.
