All About Math League
Mount Nittany Middle School Math League is coached by Mrs. Sjoberg. In a typical season, beginning in early October students are invited to join us to practice and prepare for the meets. We have about three practices in preparation for each of five meets.
The five meets typically occur at the following locations: Park Forest Middle School, Mount Nittany Middle School, Penn State Altoona, Bald Eagle Area School District, and Young Scholars. For 2020-2021, all meets will be virtual and will be held from 4:00 - 5:30 pm.
Each meet covers five areas of study: Mystery, Geometry, Number Theory, Arithmetic, and Algebra. There is a sixth category for a team round, where all 10 team members compete together to attempt to earn 36 points.
The team for any given meet consists of 10 students and all others participate in the same way, but as alternates. Those places as well as the categories in which students will compete is typically determined by a tryout at the final practice before each meet, but may be determined by performance at the previous meet. Any student enrolled at the middle school is welcome to join us.
Math League in Central Pennsylvania is based off of the Massachusetts program.
Please contact Mrs. Sjoberg if you have any questions, or would like more information.
