General Music

 

6th Grade - Marisa Hickey (Blue and Yellow Teams)
 
In 6th grade music students will experience a performance based curriculum that is built on the musical skills learned in elementary school. Areas of exploration include singing, rhythm activities, composition, instrument performance, and composer study. The primary instruments used in the classroom are Orff instruments (a collection of xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels, and other percussion instruments), drums, and ukuleles. Students will also explore Medieval and Renaissance Music.


7th Grade - Nathan Glocke (Green and Purple Teams)

7th Grade General Music is an on-team course that meets every other day for one semester. Students will listen to and learn about music ranging from the Baroque and Classical Periods, to legends of the guitar like BB King and Jimi Hendrix. We will also discuss general music theory and musical theater. Each student will be issued a guitar to use in class and will be given the opportunity to learn a variety of chords, melodies and songs.
 
8th Grade - Jonah Klixbull (Red and Orange Teams)

All 8th grade students take a semester of music which meets every other day. The course involves a variety of musical subjects with special emphasis on piano, music literacy, ear training, theory, composition and music history.
